About
The Horizon Committee is a dedicated and successful fundraising committee for the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC). Its members are women and their families, who work with a common goal to help improve the lives of children with a hearing and/or vision impairment, including children with additional disabilities.
RIDBC is able to provide the best possible education options for 900 children with the help of much needed funds raised by the Committee. In 2010, RIDBC celebrates its 150th anniversary and the Committee is proud to support one of Australia’s oldest charities for making a difference to the lives of deaf and blind children through education and research for 150 years.
The Committee began in 1984 when several Motherhood Quest entrants wished to see the valuable fund raising work for RIDBC continue. Since then friends of these women have also joined.
Mrs Colleen Keys, President of the Committee, and the Horizon Committee members organise and conduct many enjoyable events each year. Annual functions include the Parliament House Literary Lunch, Horizon Race Day, Oaks Day Luncheon and the Christmas Cocktail Party. The Committee also holds special events such as book launches and celebrity guest speaking lunches.
